Openreach are preparing to disconnect all analogue phone lines (PSTN & ISDN) in 2025, are you prepared?
If you have a phone at home or even a broadband connection, chances are high that you are using the analogue lines that Openreach want to completely shut down in 2025. This is mostly due to maintenance along with the technology now being outdated by newer technology like Fibre Optics, you may have heard or seen this product known as FTTP (Fibre To The Premises) or FTTX as a generic term. After all, some of the copper cable we currently rely on has been underground since the 19th century; so they really aren’t suitable for the technology of the 21st century .
While upgrading sounds great there’s one huge problem if you use your landline, that is the way that these phones work. They require the voltage from the old copper lines to work, Fibre does not provide that. So as a fix VoIP can take over the duties of your landline for those that want it, but the other benefit of Fibre is that if you don’t want a phone you don’t need it to have a working Internet Connection.
You are probably thinking that 2025 is years away, so why worry now? That is true but it’s not as simple as it sounds because it affects most of the communications in the UK – even your special services such as security or lift emergency systems. You may say that you’ve moved services to the cloud, but how do you connect to the cloud? If its via a copper cable to the local BT Exchange it will be switched off in 2025, so your service/data will be on the cloud but you won’t be able to use it.
The UK isn’t the only place to do this, other countries are doing this and some have already made the switch. So the UK has to keep up to stay in the race as a leader not just a participant.
This is where VoIP8 can help you make the switch on your telephone systems now. Our system will provide you with VoIP Extensions/Seats anywhere there’s an internet connection, with no changes to the network required. These can utilise a handset or a softphone to give you maximum flexibility to carry on your business, wherever there’s an internet connection anywhere in the world.
We have helped clients to utilise Analogue Telephone Adapter (ATA) devices, which convert an analogue signal to digital (IP). Thereby enabling them to continue using their older analogue special service equipment while they investigate digital options to move forward with.
